The Silver Bridge

I created this mixed-media and watercolor painting of my long-time friend Tom Helgeson fly fishing near the old silver bridge, on the Rush River in western Wisconsin. Tom had passed shortly after, and the old bridge was torn down. During that time, I had a brief health scare of my own, which got me thinking about life, death, our own mortality— and the mortality of iconic people, places and traditions. I wrote a brief essay about these thoughts, which I still think about to this day,
